“Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; let your faithful people sing with joy.”
Psalm 132:9 is a verse said every day at Morning Prayer. I had no idea. I know, I know, I should have the bible memorized by now, yada yada… but when moments like these occur, I get so excited to learn a new ‘thing’ about our prayer book. Over the years, so many people have demonized our little lovely red book. “Why don’t you just use the bible?” they say. Well, turns out, the more I read scripture, the more I realize that Holy Scripture is in every component of our worship.
It’s my biblical knowledge that needs updating, not my liturgical practices.
Today’s message is short because of the joy this morning’s revelation brings me. I hope to keep discovering little nuggets like this within scripture that support the way in which I worship; I hope the same for you. Our prayers, our Eucharistic services, our Daily Offices? All of them contain scripture. All of them come directly from somewhere in the bible, many from the psalms. Thanks be to God for those that came before us and lit the way, who wrote the bible. And thanks be to God for those that put together an order of worship with those same scriptures which allows us to praise the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
Faithfully,
Fr. Sean+
