Mobile Meals

Mobile Meals is a wonderful ministry for the senior community and home-bound living in our neighborhood. They not only appreciate the food, but they enjoy seeing the person who delivers their meal.  For some folks, this is the only visit they receive all week and they look forward to Mobile Meals day.

Our church is one of approximately 80 non-profit organizations, mostly churches, in Oklahoma County that participate in the Oklahoma County Mobile Meals program by providing a noon meal to senior citizens.  Eligible seniors are 60 years or older, homebound, unable to prepare their own meals and without someone at home who can help them cook.  This service is free of charge to seniors, although there are some that contribute $1.00 for their meal, when they are able.  We typically serve between 22 to 30 clients, who are assigned to us.  We have approximately 15 volunteers that prepare and/or deliver home-cooked meals to those clients every Tuesday, including Christmas).

Most of our volunteers are church members, but we also have friends who help.  Volunteers generally work from 9 am to noon on Tuesdays.  The entire congregation is also involved in supporting this effort—monetarily, baking cakes on a regular basis, providing cookies at Christmas and providing canned goods and other non-perishable items for our “winter bad weather” meals that we give out in case we are not able to deliver on any given Tuesday.

Monetary donations are always appreciated and we can do the shopping for you; please make checks payable to Mobile Meals.

Our cake supply is low.  Please bake in a 9x13 disposable aluminum pan and leave in the kitchen marked for "Mobile Meals."

Participating in the Mobile Meals program is a great community outreach for our church and our volunteers.  We feel that we are not just delivering a meal, but a smile and maybe the only human interaction that our clients may have that day.  We also “get much more than we give” through participating in this much-needed program.  We are always in need of additional volunteers and would invite anyone interested in joining us to contact the office.
