altar guild

Liturgy begins and ends with the work of the Altar Guild. To care for: the sacred vessels, the bread and wine, the linens, the candles, and the torches used for worship; is far more than a task, it is a privilege and a holy ministry-a gift of time and talent to serve God.

The Altar Guild ministers to the Church under the direction of the Rector and serves a vital function in the community worship life within the Anglican Tradition. The chief purposes of the guild are to prepare and maintain the altar, and to setup for the Eucharistic service. Other duties as assigned or needed include: ensuring that the Aumbry contains consecrated elements; preparing Eucharistic kits for visitation and administration of communion; the care and cleaning of Eucharistic vessels and linens; and handling the various items associated with worship, faithfully and carefully.

The Altar Guild is continuously seeking to include new faithful members. As the contribution of each Altar Guild minister requires a minimum of three hours per week (two hours on Saturday morning once a month, and thirty minutes before and after service on Sunday), this time spent is vital to the life and ministry of Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
